This summer, Antiqua returns to maison bardot in Antiparos with by the sea, an evolving project unfolding throughout June, July, and August. Following its first intervention in the space in 2024, the Athens-based gallery renews its dialogue with maison bardot, designed by architect Andreas Kostopoulos of Manhattan Projects MPNY, a place where architecture, research, and exhibition-making intersect within a fluid spatial framework.
Far removed from the neutrality of the traditional gallery setting, maison bardot draws on the material and atmospheric language of Cycladic architecture: limewashed surfaces, pigmented floors, soft curvilinear volumes, and diffused light that continuously blurs the boundary between interior and exterior. Within this context, Antiqua presents a selection of historical furniture and lighting chosen for their sense of lightness, material presence, and ability to resonate with the island’s architectural and environmental character.
Conceived as an evolving summer project rather than a singular exhibition, by the sea reflects on how historical design can be experienced beyond the conventional gallery framework. By placing the works in direct dialogue with architecture, landscape, and everyday life, the project allows them to acquire new meanings through atmosphere and place. The objects are presented not as isolated artefacts, but as presences capable of establishing an active relationship with the Cycladic environment and its rhythms.
